1. Introduction
This policy outlines the commitment of Every Body Needs Massage to safeguard and promote the welfare of disabled clients receiving massage therapy. It aims to protect clients from harm, abuse, and neglect, ensuring their dignity, respect, and safety during all interactions.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all massage therapy sessions conducted by Every Body Needs Massage, including sessions held in the client’s home, or other locations.
3. Principles
Client-Centred Care: I will respect the rights, dignity, and individuality of all clients.
Informed Consent: I will ensure clients/carers understand and agree to treatment plans using accessible communication methods. Continuous consent is vital in my practice and I will be vigilant to any signs of withdrawal of consent.
Confidentiality: I will protect client information, sharing only when necessary to safeguard the client.
Non-Discrimination: I will provide equitable care regardless of disability, gender, ethnicity, or other factors.
Professional Boundaries: I will maintain clear boundaries to protect both client and therapist.

4. Recognizing Abuse and Neglect
I will be vigilant for signs including but not limited to:
Unexplained injuries or bruising
Changes in behaviour or mood
Poor hygiene or malnutrition
Withdrawal or fearfulness
Financial exploitation or neglect
Inappropriate comments or advances

5. Safe Practice Procedures
Consent: I will obtain and document informed consent before each session. I will use preferred communication aids as necessary.
Chaperone: I will offer a chaperone or allow a trusted person to be present if requested by the client or deemed appropriate.
Record Keeping: I will maintain detailed records of treatments, client communications, and any safeguarding concerns.
Boundaries: I will avoid any behaviour that could be misinterpreted or compromise safety.

6. Responding to Concerns
If abuse or neglect is suspected or disclosed, I will prioritize the client’s safety.
I will report concerns promptly to the designated safeguarding authority or social services according to local laws.
I will maintain confidentiality, sharing information only with relevant professionals.

I will commit to regular safeguarding training focused on vulnerable adults and disability awareness.
I will stay updated on legal requirements and best practices.

I will inform clients and carers about safeguarding rights and procedures.
